Volunteer with BRIGHT: Support a Child’s Literacy Journey

Date and Time
Volunteer recruitment is open for the [2027] BRIGHT Literacy Programme. The programme runs for one year, with weekly literacy sessions held from January to November (excluding school and public holidays). Volunteers are expected to commit to at least 5 consecutive months (January to May 2027/ July to November 2027) and attend a regular weekly session based on the agreed schedule.  

Venue
City Square Mall or Kampong Kapor Family Service Centre (Volunteers will be matched to sessions held at either venue, based on their availability and the schedules of participating children.)  

Brief description
BRIGHT (Building Resilience, Igniting Growth, Harnessing Togetherness) is a programme supporting children aged 7 to 9 in literacy, social-emotional development, and learning at home.   We are looking for volunteers to provide regular one-to-one literacy support to a child. Through reading, phonics activities and guided practice, volunteers will help children strengthen their literacy foundation, build confidence and experience learning through a consistent and encouraging relationship.  

Target audience
This opportunity may be suitable for volunteers who: are 16 years old and above  are comfortable speaking English with clear pronunciation, as you will help guide young learners (ages 7–9) in building confidence and proper speaking habits. enjoy working with children; are patient, encouraging and willing to learn; can commit to regular weekly sessions; are comfortable providing one-to-one literacy support using the materials and guidance provided; and are interested in building a consistent and supportive relationship with a child.
