Kasih Sayang: A Gift of Love

🇸🇬 Kasih Sayang: A Gift of Love — Residents for Residents

This National Day, 45 residents came together for a community potluck to celebrate National Day. 23 residents cooked and brought food to share with their neighbours. A special mention to our regular Kasih Sayang resident-volunteers who cooked, served and helped make the afternoon happen.

Our colleague, Hindran, also came back on his day off to host a “How Well Do You Know Singapore?” quiz. There was plenty of laughter, friendly competition and a lot of nostalgia as our senior residents reflected on how their neighbourhood has changed over the years.

As a rather new community worker with KKFSC, what stayed with me most were the moments of connection that were shared.

A group of aunties have gotten to know one another through our food distribution sessions. One auntie shared that she enjoys coming because she sees the same people over time. They have become familiar faces, and eventually, friends. I also heard stories of neighbours who brought along friends to our community space.

Having a regular platform and space is where connection happens. You see the same faces again. You start saying hello. You bring a friend along. And slowly, a group of neighbours becomes a group of people who know and look out for one another.

And perhaps this is also what home and community mean to me.

Many of our residents may not have been born in Singapore, but this is the country they call home. They have built their lives here, raised families here, formed friendships here, and contributed to the neighbourhoods they live in.

Home is not always about where we were born. Sometimes, home is the place where we have built connections, found familiar faces, and know that there are people who will look out for us.

That’s what Kasih Sayang — A Gift of Love means to us at KKFSC: residents for residents. Not just providing support, but creating spaces where people can belong, participate and build friendships.

And perhaps that is something worth celebrating this National Day — that home is something we build together, through the people we meet, the friendships we form, and the ways we look out for one another.

A big thank you to all our residents, resident-volunteers and staff who made this National Day gathering possible. ❤️
